Hosta Gold Standard will develop into a medium to large mound, reaching a height of 50cm-55cm and a spread of up to 125cm at maturity. It forms a dense, overlapping mound of wide, oval, slightly cupped, chartreuse leaves with a seer-suckered texture. The leaves are irregularly bordered with dark green and transition to golden yellow as the season progresses, eventually fading to white towards the end of summer. Funnel-shaped pinkish-purple blooms appear in June and persist through August, rising on long scapes up to 105cm. The primary appeal of this variety lies in its foliage. It serves as a colourful specimen for containers or borders and is the progenitor of many esteemed Hostas. This variety is vigorous and exceptionally easy to cultivate. It can tolerate early morning sun and even requires it for optimal leaf colouration. It has received recognition from the American Hosta Society with the Distinguished Merit Hosta award 2006.
