It does tend to vary, from year to year, depending on the weather, but we are now into April, and your Hostas should be starting to show, with their ‘Pips’ becoming prominent and even some young leaves on those varieties, that just couldn’t wait.
Their tops are soft and juicy, just perfect for a meal for the old slugs & snails, so you really need to start protecting your lovely new growth from attack. Don't wait until there is already signs of damage. Act now!
We have always praised the effectiveness of Garlic Wash having tried many other ‘solutions’.
You have two choices
The first is to buy a proprietary Garlic Wash, available in a lot of places, on the internet.
The second, which is so easy, is to make your own. It really is so easy and so much more economic.
We have a recipe on our website, together with a QR code, so that you can make your own.
Now we thought we would add to the collection by having a video of making the Garlic wash recipe. We thought this could be both fun and useful. This can be easily followed, much like a food recipe on telly.
I can’t take any credit for the making of the Garlic Wash. That is all down to Daphne. The kitchen is most definitely her domain. I am not allowed anywhere near anything creative. Rightly so! Besides, she does it so well! The only time I am allowed in the kitchen is to do the washing up. I am grateful for that.
Watch the video to see how easy it is to do. Follow the recipe for a 2 Litre batch of Garlic Wash concentrate.
Here is the printed Recipe for reference.

Or for the more techie you can scan this QR code which takes you to the recipe as well.
Making your own garlic wash concentrate can be very therapeutic as well as economic. You cannot buy it as cheap as you can make it, and it’s fresh.
Some will hate the smell it makes in the kitchen, others will love it. Personally, I love it. (next in line to that of cooking bacon).
Do a batch now. Dilute the concentrate to 1:10 and spray before the leaves unfurl. You can always do it again later, should you need to. Always have a batch of the concentrate at the ready, maybe in the garage or shed (not in the house). We store in a 2 litre lemonade or water bottle, as a concentrate. Ready for action at a moments notice.
As a guide, spray every 6 – 8 weeks, but that will depend on the weather and any occurrence of slugs & snails.
Why not give it a go. It's so easy!
