Unpacking Your Hosta Order

You have selected and ordered your Hostas, and now you are awaiting their arrival. They will arrive in a cardboard box, and you may be wondering what to do next. The following video explains the process, and the accompanying text provides additional guidance

Unpacking your Hosta Order

Upon receipt of your package, please proceed with caution when opening it to ensure the contents remain undamaged. Avoid using sharp instruments, such as knives, that may inadvertently harm the items inside.

Inside the box, you will find a Rewela Hostas Care Guide and a packing slip listing the names of all the Hostas enclosed. Each Hosta is meticulously wrapped in polythene and cushioned with newspaper. The polythene ensures that moisture is retained within the plants during transit.

After removing the plastic wrapping, you will find some damp newspaper surrounding the Hostas. This is intended to keep the roots moist during transit. Remove the wet newspaper and submerge the Hosta, along with its label, in water for a minimum of 20 minutes to rehydrate the roots.

Once the plants have achieved an appropriate level of moisture, it is recommended to transfer them into suitably sized pots rather than planting them directly into the ground. This allows the root system to establish within the pot before being planted at a later stage. Some Hostas, however, possess well-established roots and can be planted directly into the ground.

During the winter through spring, Hostas enter a dormancy period and will not display any foliage. This is normal for Hostas and they can still be happily distributed to customers in this state.

It is advisable not to plant Hostas when the ground is cold, frosty, or covered in snow. For this reason, we recommend potting them instead.

However, once the Hostas have developed foliage and the ground temperature has increased slightly, it is appropriate to plant them directly into the soil. We recommend an exception for miniature varieties. When planted in borders, they may struggle to compete with larger specimens.

Please note that the packing slip, which lists all of your purchased Hostas, also includes our plant passport number. This ensures that, in the event of any serious issues, the Hosta can be traced back to its origin.

We have provided a Care Guide for your reference. It is designed to be conveniently stored for future use, should you need to review the proper care procedures for your Hostas. Or you can visit our online Hosta Care Guide
